Professional Bio Donya L. Adkerson, MA, LCPC, LSOE, LSOTP Donya L. Adkerson is a licensed clinical professional counselor, licensed sex offender evaluator, and licensed sex offender treatment provider.

 

She is the founder and Director of Alternatives Counseling, Inc. in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Her primary practice area is sexual abuse, working with all ages of both perpetrators and survivors of sexual assault. In her over three decades of work in the field, Ms. Adkerson has designed both outpatient and residential specialized treatment programs for sexual offenders. She has provided professional training on sexual offender assessment and treatment for both youth and adult offenders throughout the U.S.

In addition to her direct client work, Ms. Adkerson served two terms on the Executive Board of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, served as President of the Illinois ATSA chapter, and served three years as Grant Coordinator for the Illinois Sex Offender Management Board through the Office of the Illinois Attorney General. She has served as consultant and trainer to the National Resource Center on Child Sexual Abuse, Administrative Office of Illinois Courts, City of St. Louis Juvenile Court, Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Corrections, University of Illinois, and many other agencies.

Objectives Participants will:

 Recognize how youth who have offended differ from adult sexual offenders

 Learn about assessment tools and strategies

 Understand the limits of our knowledge regarding this population

 Learn Illinois statutory standards for work with this population

 Recognize special subpopulations and how they may differ from more typical youth clients

 Identify important intervention targets

 Learn ways to address needs of involved family members and engage parents as part of the treatment team

 Learn practical intervention tools and treatment activities for use in group and individual therapy

In addition to the CEU's shown on the brochure, through DHS approval, continuing education credits (CEs) are approved for the September 24, 2015 “Contemporary Assessment and Intervention with Youth Who Have Sexually Offended” training as follows: 5.25 CE hours for Licensed Clinical Psychologists 5.25 CE hours for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants 5.25 CE hours for Licensed Nursing Home Administrators 5.25 CE hours for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDPs) who may apply the continuing education units earned from this conference toward their twelve hour annual continuing education requirement.
